Xinyang, Henan provides jobs for the disabled

On November 13, 2012, the China Disabled Persons Federation (CDPF) in Xinyang organized the 2nd practical technical course in Henghui Hardware Accessories Factory in Xixian County in an effort to promote the employment of the disabled. During the one-month training period, the disabled students needed not pay for their food, accommodation and traveling. Over 100 disabled people attended training courses related to computer skill development, lathe machine operation, Wire EDM, soldering, polishing and other practical techniques.
In October, in line with the arrangement of the CDPF of Henan Province, the CDPF in Xinyang altogether selected more than 150 disabled people to attend job interviews held by Foxconn but only a small percentage of them were enrolled.
The disappointment and depression of the failed diasbled touched the cadres of the Xinyang Federation of the Disabled. After a thorough investigation and research, the organization decided to give leverage on the demonstrative, leading and mobilizing function of the Henan demonstration base for poverty reduction for the disabled. It planned to hold training courses for the disabled who had failed in the job interview of Foxconn and other disabled persons who wanted to find a job with the assitance of Henghui Hardware Accessories Factory in Xixian County in an effort to guide and receive the disabled who wanted to find a job to work in the factory. They aimed to help 70 percent of the disabled participating in the training course to find a job.

Henghui Hardware Accessories Factory in Xixian County, Xinyang City is a demonstration base for poverty reduction for the rural disabled. This factory can provide jobs for 300 people. The salary for workers who have been there for at least half a year can reach 2,000 to 4,000. More than 50 disabled students in the training course as well as their relatives showed a will to work in the factory.
Fu Qiujuan, a disabled woman who is working in the Henghui Hardware Accessories Factory, made a speech at the opening ceremony of the training class. She said that getting employment helped her realizae her life goal, of obtaining self-respect, self-improvement, self-confidence and becoming self-reliant. In Xinyang, more disabled people like Fu Qiujuan changed the course of their lives under the assitance of the CDPF and various social sectors. And their experience also encouraged many other disabled persons to seek for self-improvement and development.
In Xixian County, Wang Gongshun is a well-known disabled person. As the manager of the Carpoly Paint Store in Xixian County, Wang’s right hand was diagnosed as a grade III physical disability. In recent 20 years, Wang successfully set up a demolition company, a paintcompany and other economic entities with the support of the CDPF at all levels. He can now not only support his own family but also provide financial assistance for more than 50 disabled people and their families in poverty. Besides, he has hired three disabled persons to work in his store.
Wang Gongshun said that, “I’m disabled myself, so I really understand the difficulties of the disabled . After I became successful, I tried my best to help the disabled and make them live a good life as soon as possible, just like me.”
Now, the construction of the Wuyi Department Store has started and Wang Gongshun has invested seven million yuan in it. He wants to provide more jobs for the disabled and their children through his own efforts. Wang said that, “More than one hundred disabled people and their kids can get a job after the construction of Wuyi Department Store.” On May 16, 2014, the Fifth National Awarding Conference for Self-reliance Models and Models Renowned in Assisting Disabled Persons was held in the People’s Hall in Beijing. Wang Gongshun and six other disabled representatives were awarded the title Model Disabled Person by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MHRSS) and China Disabled Persons Federation (CDPF).
Coming back with high awards and praise, Wang Gongshun said that he would share the spectacular achievements with the disabled in Xinxian; keep president Xi’s words in mind and practice them through his own actions; lead and unite more disabled people to meet the challenges of life with great courage and encourage them to work harder to realize their dream.
