Poverty alleviation by science and technology by Ministry of Agriculture

According to the annual report of poverty reduction and development,in 2013,the Ministry of agriculture took many measures to alleviate poverty through science and technology.
1. Established grassroots agricultural technology extension system.Through the implementation of grassroots agricultural technology extension system reform and construction subsidy projects in impoverished areas with an investment of 470 million yuan and the construction of a fast channel of “experts – agricultural technicians - technology demonstration households” for the transformation of agricultural technology achievements, we established the county, town and village agricultural technology experimental and demonstration network.
2. Equipped with Technology Through-train. Successively held the Agricultural Technology “Through-train” handover ceremony in the twinned poverty-stricken areas and the contiguous destitute areas at the southern foot of Daxing’anling, and provided 21 agricultural technology service vehicles for the contiguous destitute areas at the southern foot of Daxing’anling.
3. Selected suitable species and technologies. Organized chief experts in the field of agronomy, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries and agricultural machinery to help 14 contiguous destitute areas select 331 agricultural species and 191 agriculture applicable technologies, accelerating the promotion and application of good agricultural varieties and advanced technologies.
4. Organized activities of poverty alleviation by science and technology. In the form of technology manuals, technical guide, radio, television, online technology library, academic forums and technology promotion, relying on the competitive featured agricultural resources and leading industries in poor areas, the units directly under the Ministry of Agriculture helped develop and implement the implementation plans for featured industry bases and carried out the authentication of “Three Qualities and A Standard”, held pest prevention and control technical training and launched the risk assessment of quality safety of farm produce, etc.
5. Made innovations to the agricultural science and technology promotion methods.Used special research funds for public welfare industry (agriculture) to carry out experimental demonstration of sustainable use of natural grassland, high-yield cultivation of artificial forage and standardized breeding of yaks and Tibetan sheep in two farms set up by the Eleventh Panchen Lama in Tibetan temples.
