Yangyang’s grandmother said the girl was shy and lonely. When the village opened an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Center, the grandmother took her there. Surrounded by children of her age, Yangyang opened up to the thrill of toys, music, games and books and to strangers. Her grandmother finds her happier these days and likes to talk and laugh with others. (Photo: ©UNICEF/China/2015/Xia Yong)

Helped by volunteers, caregivers at the ECD centers began to use more interesting ways, such as playing games and storytelling to let children engage in learning and stimulate their potentials. (Photo: ©UNICEF/China/2015/Xia Yong)
